i unzipped
a cloud and climbed
inside it
like a sleeping bag,
the silver lining
on my skin
felt rough and itchy,
i want to see you
make this one look
please sew me up
inside and let me drain
out when it rains,
i will be birthed
again as water
for the flowers and the soil
down below -
i think i lost
my train of thought
when it smashed right
through my temple,
i lay on the tracks and wait
for what i know
it brings to kill me, and
i'd hate to be
a cat and have to do it
eight more times
to get some peace,
i think i'd pick
a fight with a
hungry fox,
drop down from next doors
roof into the
pond and
go sit in the road til she
calls me in
at night, what a fucking bore,
i'd like to know what
her guts
have to say -
and if i dont believe
in heaven
how can i be scared
of going to hell,
i used to hope that time
would tell
me but he won't,
i know he's never
really liked me all
that much anyway, always
ended up
taking your side -
and now i only sleep in the
fetal position
on nights i wish i'd
never been born,
and when i feel
like the bad blood
between us
might need a fresh coat

(painted over it, the stain is still there underneath)

I love the beginning and the end and everything in between. I love how visceral it is.

Am I the only one who sang this? It was wonderful enough to be a song! I loved it.

Holy. Fucking. Shit. Give her the Nobel Prize! This is the kind of poem I would read in English class when talking about poetry. The images, the flow of words, the quick segues from one metaphor/simile/image to another.... You really have a gift...

The comparison between the cloud and a sleeping bag is so perfect, I love the play on words you get with 'silver lining' :D
Beautifully clever, and I really like that tiny flash of hope at the beginning, that little potential for redemption that shines through the lines about being birthed as rain. You've done a fantastic job with this one Charlotte
